1 Billion PCs-in-use in 2005
Buffalo Grove IL, September 30, 1999-
In 2005 the computer industry will pass a major milestone--over one
billion computers and nearly one billion PCs will be in use. This
is one of the results from a market research report by eTForecasts.
North America will remain the leading region for PCs-in-use and computers-in-use
for another four years, but by 2005 Asia/Pacific and W. Europe will
have more computers-in-use and PCs-in-use than North America. Western
Europe is growing faster than North America and will be second by
2005 with over 259 million PCs-in-use. The Asia-Pacific region is
growing even faster and will be the leader with over 297 million PCs-in-use
in 2005.

This research report estimates the number of computers-in-use, PCs-in-use
and computers per capita for over 50 countries from 1990 to 1999 and
projections for 2000, 2002 and 2005. There will be over 500 million
PCs-in-use or 85 per 1,000 people worldwide at year-end 2000 and nearly
one billion PCs-in-use or 153 per 1,000 people by year-end 2005. North
America will have nearly 25% of the PCs-in-use with 247 million at
year-end 2005.
